Cindy Nelson is an attorney and founder of Nelson Elder Care Law in Woodstock, Ga. She specializes in representing seniors’ rights and interests, and offering peace of mind to families and their loved ones. This includes guiding families that are trying to afford the high cost of nursing home care, protecting assets so an aging family member can live a life of dignity, working closely with clients and their families on estate planning, preparing critical decision-making documents, and advising families about options to avoid a crisis situation in the future.
Throughout her career in elder care law, Ms. Nelson has developed strategic relationships with state and federal legislators on behalf of Georgia Gerontology Society and the Area Agencies on Aging throughout Georgia. Most recently, Ms. Nelson was instrumental in strengthening Georgia legislation against elder abuse by the passage of HB78, the Elder Abuse Protection Modernization Act; securing an additional $2.7 million for senior services in Georgia for FY2015; and the implementation of the Georgia Alzheimer and Related Dementia plan. Ms. Nelson has lived in northwest Georgia for more than 20 years and is passionate about improving life for Georgians as we age.
Prior to founding Nelson Elder Care Law, Ms. Nelson worked for a non-profit elder care law clinic, an elder law legal firm, the Georgia Long-term Care Ombudsman, a Superior Court Judge, and Cobb County Probate Judge Wolk.
Previous to her focus on elder care law, Ms. Nelson spent nearly 25 years working in the Information Technology sector for Fortune 100 companies. During this time, she developed an appreciation for the complexities associated with elder care law. She enrolled and received her Juris Doctorate from Southern Illinois University School of Law, where she was the recipient of the Lesar Scholarship for high achievement.
Ms. Nelson graduated cum laude from Milliken University with a bachelor’s degree in science. She is a member of the Georgia Bar, the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. A current Board Member for Georgia Gerontology Society and Norcross Meals on Wheels, she and her husband, Randy, have four children and three rescue dogs.
