About Barbara Bonatucci

Director of Community Connections

Barbara, a native of Philadelphia relocated to Georgia in 1995 with her husband and young son; shortly after the move another son was born. She really enjoyed the opportunity to be home with the boys and as they grew up she launched her own advertising business in Cherokee County.

A Cherokee Welcome opened its doors in 2004 and through her hard work and great personality Barbara grew it into several branches that welcomed new homeowners not only to their neighborhood, but also to Cherokee County. In 2011, the business was thriving and she loved what she was doing, but as many people in the "Sandwich Generation" know being a caretaker to your aging parents and growing children can take up all of your time, so she sold her share of the business.

With her parents still up North, and in declining health, it was becoming too costly and difficult to get them the care they needed while still running her own household. Her father was 92, with a sharp mind but ailing body, and her Mom was 89, in great health but facing a rapid decline from Alzheimer's. After 70 years of marriage, 50 of which was spent in their current home, it was time to move them closer.

This journey was arduous but has taught her the importance of educating yourself on the care options and legal requirements for the senior years.

Barbara was drawn to figure out a way to combine her extensive skills (communication marketing, and sales) with her life experiences to best help others avoid some of the curveballs that she encountered.

After spending some time as an Elder Care advisor with Assisted Living Locators, Barbara soon crossed paths with Nelson Elder Care Law in Woodstock. We teamed up and created a seminar series for the local civic groups entitled how to "Navigate the Senior Years." and "How to raise your parents with out going broke and crazy." When Nelson Elder Care Law was expanding, we immediately thought of Barbara and what a great fit she would be for our caring culture.

As the Director of Community Connections, Barbara is able to pull together the marketing experience she gained from Cherokee Welcome and the desire to help educate others about elder issues, in order to work within the local community to educate and empower others to protect the ones they love from the curve balls that can come as we age.
